Harry A. “Sonny” Metzger Jr., age 75, of Delaware went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, September 10, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus following an eight year illness.
Born on February 13, 1937 in Delaware, he was the son of the late Harry and Hazel Metzger.
A graduate of Willis High School in 1955, he was a lifelong area resident. He worked 42 years for the Whirlpool Corp. in Marion as a tool and die maker. Harry was proud that he was one of the first Whirlpool associates to be trained in their autoCAD system.
A real gentleman, he was kind, thoughtful, and a good provider. He was a member of the Valleyview Friends Church and enjoyed bible studies there as well as being a part of the men’s quartet. He loved to sing gospel songs and was a member of the Traveling Chorus at Circleville Bible College.
With a passion for cooking, no one could flavor dishes like Harry; his Christmas ham was simply the best. He was a good man and provider, as well as a collector of stamps and Wizard of Oz items. He also favored the computer, searching the net or playing various games. He was a humble man and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 39 years: Karen (Downs), children: Harry III (Mary Sue Metzger of Delaware, Terry Jennings of Marion, Larry (Marcene) Metzger of Marion, Jim (Pauline) Jennings of Munford, TN, Angie Jennings (Jack) Puleo of St. Louis, MO, Rebecca Frederick of Raymond, and Rachel Metzger (fiancé John Hores) of Westerville, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and brother Cecil (Eleanor) VandeBogart of Marion.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife: Gwendolyn Rose (Amlin), second wife: Marjorie Elizabeth (Wise), a brother and 2 sisters.
Friends may call Thursday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St., Delaware, where services will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Josh Walker and Rev. Wallace White officiating. Burial will follow in Green Mound Cemetery in Kilbourne. Friends and family are then invited back to the Snyder Rodman Community Room for a time of food and fellowship.
