Jacqueline Joan “Jo” Denman, 90, formerly of New Bloomington

Jacqueline Joan “Jo” DenmanJacqueline Joan “Jo” Denman, age 90, formerly of New Bloomington, passed away on Friday August 31, 2012 at her home at the Kingston Residence in Marion.

She was born on September 21, 1921 in Marion to the late Harold Dennis O’Connell and Hazel (McMaster) O’Connell. Jo had one sister Patricia O’Connell Cancro who preceded her in death on December 31, 1992.

She married Benton (Junior) Denman Jr. on May 1, 1943 and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2007 in New Bloomington.

Jo retired from Elgin West School in 1990 after 25 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Uhl (Jon) of Georgetown TX and Kimberly Steed of Marion, one son John Denman (Kathy) of Marion, one daughter-in-law Connie Denman of New Bloomington wife of son Michael Denman who passed away on April 21, 2007. She is also survived by 6 granddaughters, Tami Uhl Young, Serena Uhl Lamensky, Chris Denman Blanton, Tara Denman Blanton, Nikki Denman Malo and Jodie Denman and one step-grandson Donnie Powers, 4 great grandchildren Courtney Blanton, Lucas Lamensky, Larkin Lamensky and Hunter Malo.

She is preceded in death by one great grandson Jackson Young on Nov 15, 2007. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Jo Jo, as she was known at Kingston, loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She also loved the Wednesday outings on the Kingston bus and was a huge fan of going out to eat. She “encouraged” her family to keep the birds well feed on her patio and enjoyed watching them and looking at the flowers her family planted. She also enjoyed her Beanie Babies, which she had been collecting for years.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 10, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at Gunder/Hall and Folk Funeral Directors in Marion with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Dan Wilch will officiate. Gunderhallandfolk.com.
