Mary L. Claypool, 75, of Marion

Mary L. Claypool, 75, died peacefully at home on Friday, September 28, 2012 following an extended illness.

Born Mary Louise McKinley on March 22, 1937 in Marion, she was the daughter of Donald and Helen Pence McKinley.

Mary was a 1955 graduate of Marion Harding High School and a lifelong resident of Marion.

On December 18, 1954, she married Jack E. Claypool at Emanuel Lutheran Church. They were childhood sweethearts and were married nearly 58 years.

Mary worked in the human resources department of Eaton Corporation, which later became Dana Corporation, for more than 40 years. She and Jack both retired in 1998.

Happiest at home, Mary loved to cook and bake, with her homemade apple pies being something to behold. Her grandchildren also savored her homemade cookies and everyone enjoyed her large holiday meals. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, making hundreds of scarves over the years for her daughter’s young students. She also enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of numerous friends involved with the Y-Men Service Club of Marion, as well as those affiliated with the U.S.S. Wright Association.

She most enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She and Jack often could be found at their grandchildren’s school and sporting events, including traveling throughout the state to wherever their grandchildren played.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Jack, as well as three children: daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Steve Field of Marion; son and daughter-in-law Craig and Andrea Claypool of St. Augustine, Fla.; and daughter and son-in-law Carol and Rod Taylor of Reynoldsburg. She also cherished her four grandchildren: Matthew Field of Marion; Kyle Taylor of Evanston, Ill.; Courtney Taylor of Reynoldsburg; and Jack Claypool of St. Augustine, Fla. She also is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Anita and Bob Niday of Marion, brother-in-law Robert Claypool of Punta Gorda, Fla., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law Claude and Wanda Wheeler Claypool; and brothers Robert McKinley and Walter McKinley.

Calling hours will be on Monday, October 1, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. at Boyd-Born Funeral Home, 122 W. Columbia St., Marion. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial at Marion Cemetery will be private. The Reverend Craig Lewis of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will officiate her services.

The Claypool family would like to thank Dr. Jack Matyas, Dr. Tom Sweeney, Dr. Jeanne Ashworth and Dr. Timothy Garner, whose expertise and care gave us nearly two additional years to enjoy our wife, mother and grandmother. The family also thanks the staff of Heartland Hospice of Marion for their exceptional care of Mary during her last couple of weeks.
