Donald R. Schmitt age 68 of Marion passed away Monday, October 22,2012 at his residence.
Don was born November 2, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Paul and Mary (Horton) Schmitt.
On July 20, 1996 he married Janet E. Patten who survives.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 until 1964 and Ready Reserve until 1968. Don worked in the propane industry and retired as district manager from Ameri-Gas.
He is also survived by a daughter, Jolene (Ben) Fielding of Fort Drum, New York, two step sons, Michael and Timothy O’Brien of Marion, a sister Rita (Richard) Zuckett of Austintown, Ohio, three grandchildren, Benjamin, McKinley and Brogan, also survivng Don are several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Don in death are two brothers Ralph and Paul Schmitt, two sisters, Martha Fitzpatrick and Mary Klapak.
Don was previously a member of VFW Post 7201. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching college football.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors by the Marion County United Veterans Council and St Mary Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from Noon on.
The family was proud that Don was a heart transplant patient of Ross Heart Hospital where memorial contributions may be made in his memory. Arrangements are being handled by Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.gunderhallandfolk.com
