Marilyn M. Tweddle, 86, of Marion

Marilyn M. TweddleMarilyn M. Tweddle, age 86, of Marion and formerly of Mount Gilead, died peacefully early Sunday morning, September 30, 2012, at Heartland of Marion following a two year illness.

On January 7, 1926, Marilyn was born at home in Mount Gilead, the daughter of the late William “Bill” and Mary Eleta (Smith) McManis.

Shortly after leaving school, Marilyn began working at the North Electric Company in Galion, where she dedicated her life for over 30 years.  She held many positions there, and was working as a draftsman when she retired.

Marilyn enjoyed visiting with her many friends at V.F.W. and American Legion Posts both in Galion and Marion, and the Eagles of Marion, where she had been a member of all three.

Most important of all to Marilyn was her family, whom she lived to spoil with her wonderful cooking and baking.  They all looked forward to visiting her to see what she had baked and was on the kitchen counter for all of them to enjoy as she regularly baked cookies, pies and torts.  And no meal was complete at her home until they all got to enjoy her famous macaroni salad.

When she wasn’t cooking, Marilyn could either be found crocheting things such as afghans and doilies for her family or watching her favorite television shows.  She never missed an episode of Days of our Lives, and had countless game shows she enjoyed and kept up with.

A very “cheerful” and “happy go lucky” kind of lady, Marilyn always had a kind word for everyone.  She also had an ornery and stubborn streak in her too.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Kathleen Spears of Marion; four grandchildren: Ron Spears, James (Natalie) Spears, Dawn (Brian) Jenner, and Mindy Spears; 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; two step-children: Howard Jr. (Cheryl) Tweddle of Crystal Lake, IL, and Judy (Winston) Meadows of Fredericktown; several step grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters: Marie Keyes of Galion, Bill (Doris) McManis of Mount Gilead, Betty (Henry) Newcomer of Marion, Sharon (Tom) Cramer of Galion, and JoAnn (Clyde) Robinson of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her former husband, Howard Tweddle Sr.; and two sisters: Marjorie Yarnell and an infant, Marlene McManis.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services honoring her life will also be held there at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, with Pastor Greg Masteller officiating.  Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of Nationwide Children’s Hospital and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead is honored to have been chosen to serve Marilyn’s family and your private condolences may be expressed to them online by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
