William A. “Bill” Wolfe, 71, of Marion

William A. "Bill" WolfeWilliam A. “Bill” Wolfe, age 71, of Marion, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, December 27, 2012, at his residence.

On November 13, 1941, Bill was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Harold C. “Bill” and Juliana J. “Judy” Zeigler Wolfe.  He graduated from Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1959.

Bill attended the Toledo Barber College and after graduating went to work in Toronto, Canada and later in North Bay, Ontario, Canada.  After the Vietnam War, he returned to Marion and went back to barbering at Wolfe’s Barber Shop on W. Center St., then joined Babcock Barber Shop on S. Main St., then worked for Wilhelm’s Barber Shop on E. Center St.

Bill served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, with the 1st Battalion 7th Calvary as a RTO Radio Operator.  He served 12 months in ground combat in the Ia Drang Valley Region, returning home in December of 1966.  He received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on December 31, 1969.

Bill was employed several years as a welding supervisor at Marion Power Shovel Dresser Industries.  He worked four years of his career in India for the company.  He later worked for General Dynamics of Lima, Ohio.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed cooking.  He especially liked Indian cuisine he learned to make while working in India.  He also loved taking fishing trips to Canada, golfing, and was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Bill will be dearly missed by his two daughters: MSgt. Lisa O’Connor of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Carmen Friend of Marion; four grandchildren: Christopher Quesenberry of Bellefontaine, Megan Anthony of Marion, Katie Malone of LaRue, Nikki Friend of California; three great grandchildren: Aaron Anthony of Marion, Trynadee and Brynden Malone, both of LaRue; his brother, Garth “Butch” Wolfe of Marion; his former wife, Beverly “Bobbie” Wolfe of Bellefontaine; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William Christopher “Chris” Wolfe in July of 1989.

The Wolfe family will greet friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  A memorial service celebrating his life will immediately follow at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe Miller officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans of Marion County, and may be made in care of the funeral home.
