John F. Hachten age 84 of Marion, Ohio, passed away Thursday January 3, 2013 at the Marion General Hospital.
He was born July 5, 1928 in Marion to the late George F. and Eva (Simon) Hachten.
On August 27, 1949 he married Avis Pauline Oiler and she survives.
John retired in 1983 as a Postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service where he started in 1944 temporarily during high school.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran during W.W. II having served on the USS Amphitrite.
John was a graduate of Marion Harding High School class of 1946, and was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.
After he retired, John sold sports items for high schools and college. For 25 years he officiated high school and college football, basketball, and baseball. He loved sports of all kinds, but especially the O.S.U. Buckeyes and he enjoyed many years of tailgating. John dearly enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, John is survived by a daughter and a son; Sue Hachten of Worthington, Ohio, Dale (Beth) Hachten of Louisville, Ky., and two grandchildren; Benjamin and Clare Hachten both of Louisville, Ky. He also leaves behind two nieces and a nephew; Patricia Hachten Wee of Harrisburg, Pa., Amy Lee Binau of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Eric Binau of Napa, Ca., and a sister-in-law, Barbara Oiler Binau of Gahanna, Ohio.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Hachten.
John always said his greatest achievements were marrying Pauline and raising his family. “Go Bucks”.
Funeral Services for John will be on Tuesday January 8, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home in Marion, Ohio. Officiating the service will be the Rev. David Hoffman. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
