Phyllis J. Ries age 78 beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away from Pancreatic Cancer and went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2013.
She was born August 2, 1934 in Roundhead, Ohio to the late Glen V. and Julia I. (Patrick) Longbrake. Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Ridgeway High School, on July 26, 1953 she married Burke E. Ries.
Phyllis was a resident of Marion, Ohio since 1956, previously living in Kenton, Ohio, current member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cardington, where she was active in sewing with the ladies quilting group. She was a member of the Creators, was known for making beautiful quilts, sewing, cross stitching and was a was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She was also active in 4-H as a child and advisor for 15 years for the Marion Clover Marionettes and volunteered at the Marion General Hospital.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Burke E. Ries of Marion, Oh., two daughters, Teresa A. Rovtar of Westerville, Oh., Ellen K. (Timothy) Messenger of Marion, Oh., 3 grandchildren, Sarah A. (Mark) Severt, Betsey A. (Mike) Liska, Jonathan M. (Kari) Messenger, 6 great grandchildren, Jacob Messenger, Mason Carey, Timothy Kohn, Dillon Carey, Autumn Messenger, Aubrey Messenger, her sister, Norma (Roger) Frost of Bucyrus, Oh., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Longbrake and her sister, Janet Ault Bagardus.
Funeral services for Phyllis will be held Monday, January 28, 2013 @ 11 AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cardington, 336 W. Main St. Cardington, Ohio with Pastor Steve Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 2 – 6 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home, 122 W. Columbia St. Marion, Ohio, and Monday, January 28, 2013 from 10-11 AM at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Research, Marion General Hospice or St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cardington, in care of the Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
