Donald R. Gwinner, age 88, of Marion, died Monday morning, February 11, 2013, at the Kingston Residence of Marion.
On May 30, 1924, Don was born in Brokensword, Ohio, the son of the late Russell and Gertrude Gwinner. He was educated in the Marion Harding High School.
Having met his wife to be, Carol Belt, in high school, she patiently waited for his return from the U.S. Army. After enjoying a several year courtship, Carol and Don were married on January 30, 1948, at Epworth United Methodist Church. Together they shared over sixty one wonderful years of marriage.
Don was a very devoted and hard worker. He spent time working as an auto mechanic; he also worked at Dixon Porter Volkswagen and finished his working years at Eaton Manufacturing Company, retiring from there after 20 years of service.
Don enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoyed the golf course and loved to spend time with his horse, Ace.
Don will be dearly missed by his; son, Dave (Debby) Gwinner of Marion, and their two sons: Kris Gwinner of Detroit, MI, and Craig (Jennifer) Gwinner of Marion; two daughters: Debby (Scott) Pickens of Morral, and their children: Chad Ward, Kim (John) Johnson, and Roger Pickens Jr., all of Marion; and Laura Dysert, and her son, Colton Dysert, both of Marion; five great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Madison, and Rylee Gwinner, and Hunter, Karmera and Landyn Pickens; and a brother Richard (Jean) Gwinner.
He is preceded in death by his devoted wife Carol M. Gwinner, his parents and siblings: Robert Gwinner, Kenneth Gwinner and Shirley Ehrnsberger.
Services honoring Don’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Marion Cemetery (Harding Memorial / South Side) at 2:45PM.
Don’s family would like to give a special “Thank You” to the staff at Kingston of Marion and also to the Marion General Hospital Hospice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home.
