Gerald “Jerry” Bernard Swartz, Jr., 83, of Marion

Gerald “Jerry” Bernard Swartz, Jr.Gerald “Jerry” Bernard Swartz, Jr. passed away on February 18, 2013, leaving us a legacy of love, laughter, and life.

Born in Akron, Ohio, on November 16, 1929, to Gerald Bernard and Marcella (Arnold) Swartz.  He graduated from Hower Trade School in 1945.

He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his daughter-in-law Leonie (Gibbs) Swartz.

In 1952 he married Josephine Valle and they shared a wonderful marriage for 61 years.

Jerry served in the Naval Reserves during the Korean War.

In 1955 he began a career in management and moved his family to Cleveland.  In 1968 Jerry became a supervisor for an Arby’s franchisee.  In 1972 he joined the Arby’s parent corporation and within three years he became a Regional Director of Operations.  In 1980 he became an Arby’s franchisee in Marion, Ohio.

Throughout his life he enjoyed his leisure time to the fullest with his family, which invariably involved travel, a passion of his.  There were extensive cross-country camping trips, Lake Erie sailing adventures, ocean resort stays and numerous golf outings.  His travels would take him and Josephine around the world.  His hobbies included duplicate bridge, golf, table tennis, and books.  Still another interest included his love for jazz.

As a supportive brother, Marilyn (Swartz) Lux will remember his kindness.  His children Christina (Chester) Sumpter, Gerald (Christine), Tim, Craig (Camille), Paul (Catherine), and Andrew (Rebecca) will cherish the memory of the wisdom he bestowed upon them.  He will also be deeply missed by his 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, long time family member Scott Monachino, numerous nieces and nephews and dear friend Jerry Robinson.

Friends may call Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 4 to 8PM at the Boler Activity Center, located on the Marion Catholic Campus, 590 Forest Lawn Blvd, Marion, OH 43302, where Parish Prayers will be held at 4PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM on Friday, February 22, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father David E. Gwinner officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary Cemetery.
