Mary Ellen Bateman, age 91, of Marion, passed away early Friday morning, February 8, 2013.
Mary was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 24, 1921. She was the daughter of Oscar E. and Marie (Theobald) Fitzwater.
Mary attended Harding High School where she received her degree.
Mary was united in marriage to Ralph J. Bateman in Marion on September 4, 1943. She was a devoted homemaker and took wonderful care of her family.
Mary was an amazing cook; she had the best homemade noodles in town along with great lime jell-o. She was also a very gifted seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cross stitching and macramé. She was a member of the Marion Chapter of the Eastern Star and also the Creators Guild.
She is survived by her children: Norma J. (Charles) Ekleberry, Don (Jackie) Bateman and Doug (Karen) Bateman; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and one brother Harvey (Jean) Fitzwater.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph J. Bateman; her parents; and siblings: Thelma and Norman.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion from 5PM to 7PM; Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11AM with Rev. David Lippert officiating. Burial will be in the Marion Cemetery.
