Richard Wellington Stevens age 78 of Marion, Ohio passed away on February 17, 2013 after a two and a half years fighting cancer.
Born Wauseon, Ohio October 15, 1934 – mother, Lucille (Barnes) Stevens, father, Donald Stevens.
Graduated from Defiance College – head football, basketball and track coach at various Ohio locations ending his career at Pleasant Local Schools after 27 years of teaching.
He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran stationed in Germany.
He was a member and trustee (5/20/93 – 4 yr. term) of Prospect American Legion Post 368, former President (1991-1992) of the Marion City/County Retired Teachers and 1st President of the Pleasant Senior Citizens (1991-1992, 1992-1993, 2nd half 1993-1994), 3 yr. Trustee Pleasant Seniors. He was also a member of Prospect Senior Citizens and 2nd V.P., and 1st V.P. of American Association of Retired Persons Marion County Chapter #1010.
Also a Board member of Marion County Services for Aging. He was a substitute driver for Mobile Meals and in 1998-1999 District 5 Director of Ohio Retired Teachers covering 8 counties.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughter, Randy (Mike) Sattler of Swanton, Oh., son, Walter (Sue) Stevens of Van Wert, Oh., step-son, David (Linda) Hill of Columbus, Oh., and four grandchildren.
Richard donated his body to the Ohio State University Medical Research Laboratory. In accordance with his wishes there will be no funeral or memorial services.
