Voula Photos, 86, of Marion

Voula PhotosVoula Photos, 86, a longtime resident of Marion, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Marion General Hospital.

She was born March 10, 1926, in Stemnitsa, Greece, to John Rigas and Sophia Antjas. Voula came to the United States shortly after World War II, the first of her immediate family to immigrate. Within five years, her parents, brothers and sisters joined her.

On June 2, 1947, she married the love of her life, John Thomas Photos of Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 1963. After the death of her beloved husband, she raised her three children single-handedly, always supporting their endeavors.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Voula loved nothing more than doting on her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and story teller and enjoyed spending warm summer days on her porch, visiting with friends and family.

She is survived by sons Thomas (Linda) Photos of Westerville, Loukas (Christine) Photos of La Crescenta, California, and daughter Tula (Jay) Detwiler of Marion. She will also be missed by brothers Anthony (Kostoula) Antjas, Pete (Voula) Antjas, sisters Georgia (Andrew) Skevos, Thespina (Edward) Holliger, sisters-in-law Pauline Kambour and Alta Photos, grandchildren John (Darby), Nathan, Nico Photos, Kristen (Scott) Dickerson, Gabriel and Olivia Detwiler, great-grandchildren Elijah Photos, Zach, Noah Dickerson and many special nieces and nephews who adored her.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, February 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home in Marion with Trisagion Prayer Services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services are Friday, February 22 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Toledo with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 265 West Third Street, Mansfield, Ohio, where she was a member for several decades. On line condolences to the family can be made at www.boydbornfuneralhome.com.
