Donald E. Mattix age 92 of Marion, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 2, 2013 at Marion General Hospital.
Donald was born September 28, 1920 in Morrow County, Ohio. He was the son of Emil Ross and Ruth C. (Smith) Mattix.
The family moved to the Meeker area in 1925. He graduated from Meeker High School in 1938.
Later, he married Louise Eileen Weever on June 20th, 1943 and she survives. They had four sons; Lawrence R. Mattix of Morral, Ohio, Dennis E. (Donna) Mattix of Marion, Ohio, and David R. (Bertha) Mattix of New Bloomington, Ohio. A son, Carl E. Mattix preceded him in death. Also there are 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews surviving.
Don enjoyed fishing with his sons, grandchildren, and many friends. He was a very hard worker and especially enjoyed working with livestock which was why he farmed most of his life. He was one of the original members of the Meeker Sportsman Club, was on the first school board for Ridgedale High School, and was a president later on for that same school board. He was a member of the Lions Club and served on various agriculture committees. He also served on the Board of Directors at the Harpster Bank. Donald was baptized in Grace Baptist Church.
Besides his parents and his son, Donald was preceded in death by a grandson, Russell Mattix, a great-grandson, Carson Mattix, two sisters, Ruby Herr and Maxine Hemmerly, and a brother, Cecil Mattix.
Funeral Services for Donald will be Saturday April 6, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Dennis Mattix. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday April 5, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M.
