Mary “Kathy” Melvin Bradshaw, 63, of Edison

Mary “Kathy” Melvin Bradshaw, age 63, of Edison, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, April 3, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family following a three and a half year battle with cancer.

On October 4, 1949, Kathy was born in Marion, Ohio, the youngest of two daughters of the late Harold and Martha (Lusch) Melvin. As a family, they moved to Columbus, where she graduated from Brookhaven High School.

In 1977, Kathy was set up on a blind date by mutual friends with George “David” Bradshaw, and the rest is history. They were married on May 10, 1978, in Jacksboro, Tennessee. They have cherished their 34 years of marriage together, and their legacy is their two daughters, Erica and Andrea, as they were her proudest achievement.

For over 13 years, Kathy enjoyed loving on all of the people at the Kingston Residence of Marion as their Resident Services Coordinator, until she retired earlier this year due to her health.

With a love for animals, Kathy has always had a faithful canine companion by her side, with her most recent being her sweet “Zoey”.

Always thinking of her family first, Kathy made sure they were taken care of and had whatever they needed. She also loved being there for her daughters, hardly ever missing an event they were involved in, whether it was cheerleading, volleyball or FFA. And for her precious four grandchildren, she had the nickname of “Nana” and “spoiling was her game”.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, George David Bradshaw of Edison; two daughters: Erica (Heath) Looker of Edison, and Andrea (Shane) Mattix of Mount Gilead; four precious grandchildren: Olivia Looker, Emily Mattix, Olesia Looker and William Mattix; her sister, Patty (Eric) Anthony of Edison; a nephew and niece: Chris Anthony of Okeechobee, Florida, and April Appleman of Edison; several great nieces and nephews; and a lifelong friend, Janet Antauer of Dublin.

Including her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her niece, Mary Anthony VanMeter; her in-laws: George “Shorty” and Dorothy Bradshaw; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Bradshaw, who also just lost his courageous 13 year battle two weeks ago.

Kathy’s family will greet friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 7th, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring her life will also be held there on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. James VanMeter officiating. Burial will follow in Claridon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South Street, Mount Gilead, Ohio, 43338, for their tender and loving care of Kathy.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead is honored to have been chosen to serve Kathy’s family and your private condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
