Mary Lou Miley, 88, of Ashley went home to be with her Lord Thursday afternoon April 4, 2013 at the Kingston Residence, Marion, where she had resided for the past three and half years.
Born April 12, 1924 in Ashley, she was the daughter of the late Laurence and Flossie (Coomer) Westbrook. A graduate of Ashley High School in 1942, she was a lifelong area resident.
She worked at North Electric until marrying her beloved husband of 64 years: Cecil L. Miley in 1943. A dedicated wife and loving mother she assisted with the family farm and took care of the accounting for Miley Nitrogen. Cecil passed away on March 4, 2008.
A dedicated member of the Alum Creek Friends Church, Marengo, she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. With a passion for cooking, she was always the first to offer something, not only for the men in the fields, but PTA, a funeral meal, or any community interest. Her potato salad and home baked pies were delicious.
Mary Lou enjoyed shopping, working crossword puzzles, and watching As The Word Turn’s. She was a skilled seamstress and also enjoyed needlepoint. Simple and easy going in nature, she treasured time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and participating in their activities. Helpful in every way and with never a sharp word spoken, she will be remembered for her kind and loving ways.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Ralph (Judy) Miley of Waldo; 10 grandchildren, Craig Miley, Debbie Hodges, Angela Levings, Chad, Kyle, Stephanie, Brittany Miley, Paula Miley Jones, Kevin, and Mary Miley; 15 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by 2 sons Gary L. in 1970, Ronald A. Miley in 2005, sister Nora Jackson in 2009, and brother Edwin Westbrook in 2010.
The family will receive friends on Saturday April 6th from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 12:00 pm (noon) at the Bennett-Brown- Rodman & Snyder Funeral Home, 307 E. High St., Ashley with Rev. Mary Sandberg of the Waldo United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery.
A reception will be held immediately following the services at the Waldo United Methodist Church.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Acclaim Hospice, 2800 Corporate Exchange Dr., Columbus, OH 43231.
