Robert L. Plotner, 90, of Marion

Robert L. PlotnerRobert L. Plotner, age 90, of Marion, passed away Thursday morning, April 18, 2013, at the Marion General Hospital following a brief illness.

Robert was born in Marion, Ohio, on February 17, 1923, the son of the late James R. and Florence (Tallman) Plotner.  He graduated from Washington Local Schools in Byhalia, Ohio in the Class of 1941.

On June 26, 1943, Robert married the love of his life, Hazel R. Coder in Raymond, Ohio.  Together they shared over 63 wonderful years of marriage before she preceded him in death on October 19, 2006.

Faithful to his country, Robert served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army from April 1946 through May 1947.  Last April he took the veterans Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C., a day he truly cherished.

For many years, Robert worked as a carpenter and an electrician.  He was a manager at Union Rural Electric in Marysville before taking a job as a supervisor at Marion Rural Electric (now Mid Ohio Energy), from where he retired in 1988.

Robert was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion.  He volunteered with the Buckeye Backers at The Ohio State University at Marion, was a member of V.F. W. Post 9909 in Raymond, attended the Marion Senior Center and often visited Eye To Eye in Marion, a low vision support group.

In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, creating many crafts.  He spent countless hours in the summer mowing his lawn, his pride and joy.  He also liked watching WWE Wrestling on television, always believing it was real.

A family oriented man, Robert enjoyed spending time with his family when he was away from work.  They took many vacations together to the Smoky Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway.  The last several years he spent a lot of time with his daughters.  He liked going shopping with them and then dining out at his favorite restaurants, Bob Evans and Perkins.

Since Robert never had any grandchildren, his cats became part of his family and were like grandchildren to him.  Nikki, Jessie, Murphy, Charlie, Chloe, and all the Bings (the stray cats in the neighborhood) were all part of his extended family.

Robert will be dearly missed by his two daughters: Cheryl (Carlton) Williams of Marion and Linda Plotner of Fostoria.

Robert’s family will greet friends from 3 – 6 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services honoring his life will be held there on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Schuring officiating.  Burial will follow in Byhalia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Marion Area Humane Society, 2264 Richland Rd., Marion, OH 43302 or to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 S. Prospect St., Marion, OH 43302.

Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve the Plotner family and your private condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
