Ronald E. “Ronnie” Larcom, of Radnor, died Saturday morning, May 11, 2013, at the Marion General Hospital. He was 81 years old.
On February 27, 1932, Ronnie was born in Marion, Ohio, one of four sons of the late Donald and Thelma (Hacker) Larcom. He was raised in Waldo, Ohio, where he graduated from Waldo High School in the Class of 1950, for whom he was a proficient basketball and baseball player.
After graduation, Ronnie enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he honorably served throughout the Korean War.
Upon his honorable discharge, Ronnie returned home to Waldo, where he reconnected with a younger gal from high school, Louise Moyer. Made for each other, they were married on November 4, 1956, at the United Church of Christ in Waldo. Together they have cherished their 57 years of marriage and lovingly raised a son, Kevin.
A lifelong farmer, Ronnie was a man who took pleasure in the simple things in life. More than anything else, he loved his family, his coon dogs, and farming the land. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Delaware Senior Center and getting together with his exercise buddies.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Louise Larcom of Radnor; his son, Kevin (fiancé Mia Moore) Larcom of Marion; two granddaughters: Jessica and Geni; three great-grandchildren; Mia’s daughters: Alissa and Tia; a brother, Dick (Betty) Larcom of Waldo; four nieces: Debbie Kantzer, Joell Stacy, Stacy Seckel, and Beth Weeks; two nephews: Curtis and Gary; three beloved sisters-in-law: Clara Mae Wiseman, Mary Lou Laucher-Retterer, and Jane Fogle, and their families.
Including his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by two brothers: Bill and Donald.
His family will greet friends from 9 – 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 135 W. Main St., Waldo. Services honoring his life will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Sarah Schaaf officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
