Thomas Arthur Shirk, 90, formerly of Prospect

Thomas Arthur Shirk, age 90, formerly of Prospect, passed away Tuesday morning, May 21, 2013 at Marion Manor Nursing Center.

He was born in Union County, Ohio on April 21, 1923 to Thomas George and Mardotha (Garner) Shirk.

Thomas served his country proudly as a veteran of the United States Army and was the owner-operator of Shirk’s Plumbing for many years.

He was a true believer who loved his church; Calvary Bible Baptist Church and was formerly the Sunday School Superintendent.

A true outdoorsman, he also loved hunting, fishing and trapping. You could also find him searching through flea markets for antique treasures.

Thomas was preceded in death by his wife; the former Bertha Levan, one son; David Shirk, a brother; Rex Shirk and two sisters; Virginia Lockwood and Mary Parker.

Surviving are two sons; Leonard (Wanda) Shirk of Prospect and Thomas (Rebecca) Shirk of Waldo, a sister; Sara Shirk, a brother; Bernard (Pat) Shirk, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Calvary Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Floyd Radebaugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Marion County Joint Veteran’s Council. Friends may call on Friday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.
