Hazel Bernice Slocum Hoffman, 86, formerly of Marion

Hazel Bernice Slocum HoffmanMrs. Hazel Bernice Slocum Hoffman, of Sarasota, Florida and formerly of Marion, died Friday, May 31, 2013 in Sarasota, Florida.

She was born June 18, 1926 in the village of Tilton, Arkansas to Clarence and Luva Slocum.

Hazel Bernice was a qualified Native American of the Choctaw Cherokee Linage.  Her father’s mother, Hettie Holoman Slocum, was a medicine woman along the White and Arkansas Rivers in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Hazel moved to Marion in 1950’s with husband George Hoffman, who was then employed by The Old Ohio Sprinkler Company.  The Hoffman family attended St. Mary’s Church, with their son, George Louis Huffman and daughter, Mary Ann Hoffman, who was born in Marion.

Husband George E. Hoffman was owner and president of Fire Protection and Sprinkler Associates Inc., in Marion.  The Family resided in Marion for over thirty one years before retiring to Sarasota, Florida.

Friends may call from 5 to 7PM on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM, Saturday, June 8, 2013 at St. Mary Church with Father John Bakle presiding.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
