Virginia L. (Ginny) Mathiot, 83, of Marion

Virginia L. (Ginny) MathiotVirginia L. (Ginny) Mathiot, 83, of 233 Uhler Ave. died peacefully Monday morning following a brief illness at the Lutheran Village Wolf Creek skilled nursing facility in Holland, Ohio.

Born January 25, 1930, in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Ilo Tobin of Marion.  Ginny was married for nearly 38 years to the late Walter (Bud) Mathiot.

She is survived by two sons: William W. (Bill) Mathiot of Sylvania, Ohio, and his wife, Deb Mathiot, and Lawrence K. (Larry) Mathiot of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his wife, Liz Mathiot.  In addition, she is survived by her four grandchildren: Bob and Sarah Mathiot, both of Sylvania; Claire Mathiot of Oakland, California; and Carolyn Mathiot of Raleigh.

Other survivors include two sisters: Martha (Marty) Merchant of Marion and Elizabeth (Betsy) Tobin of Broomfield, Colorado; and a brother, William (Bill) Tobin of Marion and his wife, Wanda Tobin.  Ginny is also survived by eight nieces and nephews and 17 great nieces and nephews.

She was a long-time officer in the Marion banking profession, having worked at Fahey Bank, Marion Federal Savings and Loan, Home Federal Savings and Loan and successor entities.  She cherished the relationships she had with co-workers, customers and friends during her career.

Ginny was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Marion.  She was an active church volunteer, having served in many capacities, including the Bereavement Committee, the Peace and Justice Committee and the Neighborhood Supper program.

She took great joy from her numerous other volunteer endeavors, including Hospice of Marion, English as a 2nd Language and the Marion City School Reading Program.

The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Father David Gwinner will preside.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Home of Marion.
