130729-gompfRon Gompf, age 58, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Ron was born in Morrow County on August 10, 1954. He is the son of Edward D. and Anna G. (Wilds) Gompf.

He graduated from River Valley High School in the class of 1972. One year later, Ron was united in marriage to Laura L. Smith on December 2, 1973 at the St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall) in Cardington.

Ron was a jack-of-all-trades. He had a true passion for farming and for John Deere tractors; he was good with any tool that was put in his hand and also enjoyed working in the Garden Department at Meijer’s.

To say that Ron was simply a Cleveland Browns fan would be an understatement. He was their biggest fan with an intense passion for Browns football. He also was an avid outdoorsman. Above all, Ron loved and cherished his family. He loved his mother and has always made sure her every need had been tended to. He also made sure that he was always at his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting event.

Ron will be missed by his wife of nearly 40 years, Laura L. Gompf; his children: Rhonda Michelle (Steven Edward) Nemeth and Chad Edward (Fiancé Jess Lynn Yoha) Gompf; his mother Anna G. Gompf; grandchildren: Konnor Ryleigh and Morgan McKenzie; Siblings: Daniel (Leah) Gompf and Donna (Don Yeoman) Fridley; and also his AA family.

He is preceded in death by his father Edward D. Gompf and his siblings: Jean Ann Gompf, Billy Gompf and Patricia Tevis.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall), 5070 Newmans-Cardington Road East, Cardington, from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday at 11AM with Rev. Adam Sornchai officiating. Burial will be in the Windfall Cemetery.

If so desired, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or to the St. John Lutheran Church (Windfall).
