Carl E. Spires, age 80, of Marion, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Born March 28, 1933 in Jackson, Ohio to the late George and Mary (Vance) Spires, Carl was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He retired from Erie Conrail as a store keeper. Carl was a member of Fairpark Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis (Rinnert) Spires, two sons Gary (Ann) Spires of Alabaster, Alabama, Brian (Denise) Spires of Marion, one brother Larry Hardin of Columbus, four grandchildren Michelle Welch (Mark), Morgan Kiley (Derek), Brianna Crothers (Chris), Brent Spires, and six great-grandchildren. Preceding Carl in death are two brothers Ernie Spires, Richard Spires,six sisters Helen Albright, Edith Maerker, Betty Steffen, Mary Alspauch, Selma Spires, and Frances Spires.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Fairpark Baptist Church with Rev. David Rush Officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.
