Dorothy (Dotty) W. VonBergen, of Marion, left to be with her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2013.
Born in the old Marion County jail on October 15, 1923 to Frank Washburn (former Marion County Sheriff) and Mary Isabel (LaMonda) Washburn. Also in her life was her Step-Father, Clifford Midlam. All have preceded in her in death.
Dorothy was a graduate of Marion Harding High School in 1941 and attended Columbus Business College.
She married Quentin S. Walker with whom she had 2 daughters. He passed away on April 22, 1999.
On August 23, 1980, she married R. Jack VonBergen of Sabina, OH, where she resided until 1994 when she came back to Marion. Jack preceded her in death on October 27, 1988.
She worked as a secretary at Universal Cooler (Tecumseh) and Central Soya, retiring after 22 years in 1980 from the latter.
Dorothy was an avid card player, playing in many bridge and euchre circles in town. Dorothy was a very patriotic woman as she always wore a flag pin. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marion, former Board Member and Lifetime Member of the Marion Senior Center, Marion Elks Lodge, Sabina Elks Lodge, Marion Moose Lodge, and past member of the Marion Palace.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Kristan Walker, Gulf Breeze, FL, Annette Hartman, (Mark), Marion, OH, and step-son, Charles (Judy) VonBergen, Sabina, OH, as well as grandchildren Amy Bowers, Emily Hartman, Lucas Hartman, step-grandchildren, Eric (Robin) VonBergen, and (Matt) Paige Tinker, great-granddaughter McKenzie Ricardy, and step-great-grandchildren Noah and Ellie Grace Tinker.
When leaving this earth that she knew as home, at exactly the 17:00 hour, with all her wittiness, oneliners, charm, style, and grace, we could hear her saying, “It’s 5:00 somewhere.”
There will be a memorial service on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 3PM at the First Presbyterian Church 143 S. Prospect St. Marion, OH. Officiating the service will be Pastor Rob Howard. Burial will take place at a later date in Marion Cemetery. Friends may call, Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 5-7PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
