Evelyn L. Lichtenberger, 91, of Waldo

Evelyn L. LichtenbergerEvelyn L. Lichtenberger, age 91, of Waldo, went to be with the Lord Wednesday afternoon, August 7, 2013, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.

On August 15, 1921, Evelyn was born in Marion, Ohio, the youngest of two children of the late William and Vivian (Shaw) Curren. She was raised in Marion, where she graduated from Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1939.

Shortly following high school, Evelyn was introduced to her husband to be, Raymond H. Lichtenberger, by her cousin Vonda. They were married on June 30, 1940, and lovingly raised three children together. During their 58 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling, camping, and N.A.R.F.E. get togethers. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1998.

For many years Evelyn was a dedicated employee at the Fulfillment Corporation in Marion.

A woman of deep faith, Evelyn was an active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waldo, and could hardly wait to be reunited with the Lord. She also had been a member of the Good Sam Camping Club and of a mother’s study club.

Most important of all to Evelyn was her family, all of whom she loved dearly and was very proud of. She also had a huge heart for animals, always having a pet to keep her company. Her current canine companion was Pete, who was always by her side.

She will be fondly remembered by her three children: Linda (Walter) Oehler of Waldo, Joyce Butterman of Marion, and Rev. James (Sue) Lichtenberger of Lansing, Michigan; six grandchildren: Debra McEntire, Tim (Tina) Oehler, Julie (Mike) Richardson, David (Liz) Lichtenberger, Diane (T.J.) Longdo, and Dan Lichtenberger; ten great-grandchildren: Skylar, Spencer, and Stephen McEntire, Seth, Troy, and Kylie Oehler, Tom and Danielle Ballard; five great-great-grandchildren: Gavin, Ethan, Lucas, Rocco, and Jionni; two sisters-in-law: Mary Alice McKeever of Thurmont, Maryland, and Elizabeth Curren of Perrysburg, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Including her husband and parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Curren.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her Lord and her life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 135 W. Main St, Waldo, with Pastor Sarah Schaaf officiating. They will again greet friends for an hour prior to her service at the church. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
