Paul F. Granger, 86, formerly of Marion, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 1, 1927, in Big Island, Ohio, son of the late Alonzo and Gertrude (Conway) Granger.
He and his wife of 61 years, the late Kathleen A. Granger, resided in Marion until 1986, before retiring to Sarasota, Florida, for 16 years, returning to Lewis Center, Ohio in 1999.
Paul was a loving husband, proud father of nine children, farmer, home builder, and realtor. To his friends and family he was a mentor, advisor, and role-model. His strong work ethic, determination, and confidence was rivaled by few, and passed on enthusiastically to his children. He was happiest playing golf with his wife, Kathleen, or sailing on his boat the “KG Lady.” He began the Paul Granger Real Estate Company in Marion, OH, in the mid-1960s and became a successful real estate broker and salesman.
He was a member of St. Mary’s class of 1945 and former parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church, Marion, OH, and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, Bradenton, FL. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and longtime member of the Marion Board of Realtors and Marion Country Club.
Surviving are his children, Dr. Colleen (Jim) Hagen of Chicago, IL, Paul A. (Laura) Granger of Greenville, SC, Dr. Kevin (Cindy) Granger of Clearwater, FL, Dr. Jeffrey (Carol) Granger of Columbus, OH, Hon. Teresa Ballinger (John Shank) of Marion, OH, Martin (Carla) Granger of Worthington, OH, Kelly (Lori) Granger of Middletown, OH, Dr. Beth (Tom) O’Reilly of Westerville, OH, and Bradley (Rhonda) Granger of Powell, OH; 26 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; his brothers Carl (Dee) Granger of Marion, OH, Edward (Mary) Granger of Marion, OH, Richard (Reed, deceased) of Worthington, OH; his sisters, Marie (Dick, deceased) Zimmer of Tallahassee, FL, Sr. Marie Granger of Columbus, OH, and Janie Granger of Grove City, OH.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen A. (Thome) Granger; brother Johnny Granger of Marion, OH; and sister, Shirley Granger of Kansas City, MS.
Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 251 North Main Street, Marion, with Father Thomas Buffer presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
