Cloyd Ray “Ike” Rice, 95, of Marion

Cloyd Ray “Ike” Rice age 95 of Marion, Ohio, passed away Tuesday September 3, 2013 at Genesis Health Care Presidential Center in Marion.

He was born June 9,1918 in Kirkpatrick, Ohio to the late Jesse and Edith (Collins) Rice.

On September 7, 1937 he married the former Pearl C. Rorick. They resided in the surrounding area. She preceded him in death.

On July 21 2005, Cloyd married Mary Reynolds and she survives.

Mr Rice worked at one time as a farmer. Cloyd and Pearl at one time owned and operated the Martel Grain and Supply. He was a member of the Martel High School Board of Education and was active when the new gymnasium was built. Most of his life he was a welder, and in 1980 retired as a Maintenance Welder from Sims Bros. in Marion, Ohio.

Cloyd attended Berean Baptist Church. After taking a correspondence course in order to obtain a local Preacher’s License, he was involved in much preaching as a supply minister from time to time in various churches. He also has been a member of Gideons International since 1950 and was a speaker to represent their work and also held many offices in the organization. He was a member of the Marion Co. Camp.

Cloyd was an avid deer hunter and did most of his hunting in Pennsylvania.

Besides his wife Mary, he is survived by a son, Dennis Rice of Marion, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Ann and two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral Services for Cloyd will be on Monday September 9, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Rev. Bill Middleton. Burial will follow in the Caledonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday September 8, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M.
