Glenn Richard Davis, age 63, of Cardington, formerly of Marion, was called home on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Riverside Methodist Hospital following a long, courageous battle with kidney disease and cancer. His wife of 42 years was holding his hand.
He was born in Waterville, Maine, on November 5, 1949, to the late Wayne Mary and Robert D. Davis. Glenn graduated from Harding High School in the Class of 1968.
Glenn worked at Burger Chef/BBF and Big Bear Grocery Store throughout high school and later owned his own Gulf Station on North Main Street in Marion before working for Marion Power Shovel, Vigortone Ag. Products, and finally retiring from Depot Express.
Glenn was introduced to his soon-to-be wife, Rosemary Jolley, by her sister Brenda Jolley. Glenn picked her up for their first date on his Triumph motorcycle and proceeded to take her to “Shoot the Loop” and to cruise Stewart’s Root Beer Stand where Rosemary worked. Glenn and Rosemary were married soon after she graduated from high school in 1971. Glenn was a wonderful provider for Rosemary and his family for the entire 42 wonderful years they shared together.
Glenn loved muscle cars, motorcycles, demolition derbies, drag strip racing, and watching NASCAR. He loved to tell stories about his GTOs, Novas, Mustang, Triumphs, and Hondas. Glenn was a lifetime member of the Triangle Motorcycle Club, Marion County Classics Car Club, and the Ridgedale Lions Club.
Glenn had a sharp wit, an infectious and sarcastic sense of humor, and a memorable ornery personality. Many hours were spent telling stories of the antics Glenn and his friends engaged in during their younger years. Everywhere Glenn went he stumbled upon some old friend he knew and would quickly be reliving stories and catching up. Glenn never hesitated to help a friend with any project or even “questionable idea” he/she may have. Glenn was a great friend to many and always made it a point to often visit any of his friends or family when they were ill. Glenn was blessed with many lifelong friends that were more like family. Some of them that will miss his presence are: Michael (Shirley) Hogan, Larry Schrote, John (Connie) Knight, and his Heartland friend, Richard Morrison.
Left to cherish her memory are his wife Rosemary of Cardington; daughters: Kimberly Blackwell of Cardington and Sarah Johnson of Marion; his sister-in-law, Brenda Jolley and brother-in-law, Russell Wayne Jolley; and niece, Valerie Jolley all of Marion, and his beloved grandchildren, who all lovingly call him “Bop” or “Boppy”: Gabriel, Grant, Cole, and Carah Blackwell all of Cardington and Maya Johnson of Marion.
Including his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law: Fern and Russell Jolley; his sister-in-law Judy Jolley; and his and former son-in-law, Randall Johnson.
His family will greet friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:0 a.m. Glenn will be cremated at his request.
