Mabel Irene (Hamilton) Wright, 91, of Marion

Mabel Irene (Hamilton) WrightMabel Irene (Hamilton) Wright, age 91, of Marion, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

Mabel retired after 42 years from The Marion Power Shovel.  She was a past member of the Marion Women’s Bowling Association, having bowled on many league championship teams, a women’s State championship team, and was inducted into the Marion Bowling Council’s Hall of Fame for superior performance in the sport of bowling.   Mabel was a member of Smithy’s fast pitch softball team in the late 40’s, leading off and playing left field and their basketball team.  She was also a stand-out basketball player on her high school team, Byhalia High School, graduating with the Class of 1940.

Spring and summer were Mabel’s joy when she could be outside meticulously tending her many flower gardens and her lawn, working all day and into evening hours until everything was perfect – and then starting all over again the next day.  She also very much enjoyed decorating inside and outside for the holidays.

But, above all, were family and friends.  They were absolutely first and always on her mind and in her generous and loving heart.

Whatever else she may have accomplished, she may be sure of this, she raised a very grateful daughter.  She is now at rest and the pain and suffering from the broken hip have now been wiped away.  Our tears will linger, but our hearts are overflowing with love and happy memories that are forever.

Mabel is survived by her daughter Sharon (William Terry) Flickinger of  Marion; Grandchildren: Craig (Kathy) Flickinger of Marion, Kevin (Melissa) Flickinger of Clarksville, Tennessee; Great-grandchildren:  Brooke and Bryce Flickinger; Whitney Flickinger; Very special extended family:  Jim (Pat) Gerfen, Scott Gerfen, Brad (Allison) Gerfen & their son Riley; Sister: Mrs. Shirley (Harold) Grose of West Mansfield; Sister-in-laws:  Mrs. Thelma Dillinger of Marion,  Mrs. Eva Hamilton of  Marysville and Mrs. Rose Alice McCrary of Marysville; Numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who were all special to Mabel and her ever faithful Maltese companion, Ellie.
