Sandra L. “Sandy” Villavicencio, age 59, of Marion, joined her father in heaven Saturday morning, October 19, 2013, at her home following an extended illness.
On July 24, 1954, Sandy was born in Ravenna, Ohio, the fifth of seven children of Shirley (Flanagan) Thomas and the late Nathaniel Thomas. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio, in the Class of 1973.
On September 21, 1982 Sandy married the love of her life, Oscar Villavicencio. Together they moved to Marion, Ohio, and began their life-long adventure of raising and nurturing their 3 children. As time went by, they were blessed to be able to spoil 4 grandchildren. Together they cherished 31 years of marriage.
Sandy had the gifts of compassion and love. She showered people with these gifts every opportunity she had. She loved to help others and to put people at ease, tenderly caring for her many patients as a home health care and nurse’s aide at MedCenter in Marion.
Amongst family and friends, Sandy was known for her cooking. She always made sure her family was taken care of, with dinner being on the table every night just before 5:00 p.m. and fresh baked cookies as an after school snack. Each year those who were blessed to know her got lavished with special cookies and candies at Christmas. She was just beginning to pass down her love of cooking to her beloved grandchildren.
Known for her excellent character, she was trusted for her intelligence and honesty, always willing to listen to those in need. She was a pillar of strength for her family and friends. With patience, wisdom, and understanding, she always gave sound advice, teaching her children to always trust in the Lord. She could be ornery and feisty, able to see humor in any situation, and she was a joy to be around.
With a love for music, not a day would go by without a song in her heart. She loved to sing and enjoyed singing for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed making crafts, and especially making ornaments to give to her family over the holidays.
The most important thing to Sandy was her family, they meant everything to her and with every breath in her body she loved them. Her family was her life and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Oscar Villavicencio; three children: Victoria (Tim) Runyon, Ruben (Julie) Villavicencio, and Dena Villavicencio, all four of Marion; four beloved grandchildren: Logan and Evelyn Runyon, and Alena and Mia Villavicencio; her mother, Shirley Thomas of Georgia; five siblings: William “Bill” (Myrtle) Thomas, Carol “Cookie” Kline, both of Florida, Larry (Nancy) Thomas, Ron (Lori) Thomas, both of Georgia, and Scott (Sue) Thomas of Medina, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her father, Sandy was preceded in death by her sister, Marsha Barile.
Her family will greet friends and celebrate her life at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene, 233 W. Church St., Marion, on Friday, November 1st, with services honoring her life beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Phillip Modlin officiating.
