Wanda Faye Straub, age 78, of Marion passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, in the Marion General Hospital at 1:45 p.m.
She was born in Hilliard, Ohio on May 29, 1935 to Edward and Lulu (Shier) Sherwood.
Wanda graduated from Hilliard High School in 1953.
On May 29, 1955 she married Richard J. Straub at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hilliard, Ohio and he survives.
Wanda and Richard moved to Marion and became members of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in 1962. She was a member of WELCA at the Emanuel Lutheran Church and devoted much of her time to church work.
Wanda has played the organ, piano, and accordion in several hotels in central Ohio including the Deshler-Wallick Hotel, Neil House, Southern Hotel, and the Harding Hotel. She was the organist at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in past years and has played the organ for the past 35 years at the Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church.
She also was a 4H Advisor for many years and truly enjoyed sewing for her family.
Wanda has been employed as a field representative for the U.S. Census Bureau since 1978 to the present.
Surviving along with her husband are 3 daughters; Paula Stewart of Nothfield, Mn., Marilyn (Tim) Wilson of Marion, Oh., & Lois (Ron) Glazener of LaVernia, Tx., a sister; Dolores Sherwood of Marion, Oh., and 1 granddaughter; Kira Glazener.
Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Friday, October 25, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Emanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the Forest Grove Cemetery near Plain City, Oh. Pastors Arnold Wulff and Mark Schuring will be officiating.
