Donald Gene “Don” Taylor, 82, of Nevada

Donald Gene “Don” Taylor, age 82, of Nevada, passed away on Thursday evening at the Marion General Hospital.

Don was born on February 13, 1931 in Galion, OH to William Vernon and Florence Vera (Garverick) Taylor. He graduated from the Galion High School in the class of 1948.

Don believed in working hard and gave of himself in many ways to various careers. He worked as an aircraft structural mechanic at Rockwell in Columbus, Walston Motors & Haydessy in Bucyrus, Tecumseh and others.

Don proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served in the Korean War and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He spent 11 years in the infantry and after he retired from the Army he served as an advisor in Pakistan and in Saudi Arabia.

On May 15, 1990, Don was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Martin and together they have shared over 23 years of marriage.

Don loved life. He enjoyed being with people, especially joking around and teasing with them. He loved to dance and was quite good. He also had a hobby that he enjoyed from a very young age of building model airplanes.

Don is survived by his devoted wife Ruth Ann Taylor; children: Donald R. (Norenna) Taylor, Patricia Ann Cox, Robin L. Scrowinski and Drema K. Dildine; grandchildren: Mandy, Evan, Crystal, Brant, David, Sarah, Jamie, Paul, Amber and Sami; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: William D. Taylor, Richard W. Taylor and Hazel M. Beach.

Services for Don will be held privately with the family at a later date.
