Samuel Benjamin “Benny” Eastep, 76, of Cardington

Samuel Benjamin “Benny” EastepSamuel Benjamin “Benny” Eastep, age 76, of Cardington, died Monday evening, November 11, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 20, 1937 in Sparta, the son of the late Samuel E. and Marie C. (Hodge) Eastep.  He served in the National Guard and the U.S. Navy.

Samuel was married to Ruth Evelyn Fink.  They took their wedding vows on January 17, 1956 at the Salem United Methodist Church.  They have shared over 57 special years together, raising four children along the way.

As a young man he was employed by North Electric in Galion then worked at Pollack Steel and Armco Steel in Marion for 19 years.  Since 1974, he has been the owner of The Muffler House in Galion, Marion and Bucyrus.  All of his children worked with him in the muffler business.

Benny enjoyed spending time outdoors.  He rode motorcycles, went boating, water skiing, and fishing, and loved working in his garden.

Being with family was very important to Benny.  He and Ruth traveled often, including trips to Hawaii and a cruise to the Bahamas.  They also enjoyed antiquing and spending a month in Florida every winter.

Benny will be dearly missed by his wife, Ruth, of Cardington; four children: Brian (Yvonne) Eastep, Mark Eastep, Craig (Diane) Eastep, Melissa (James) Patrick, all of Cardington; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and two brothers: Hollis (Pam) Eastep and Bruce (Sondra) Eastep, both of Mount Gilead.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Terrance Lee Eastep; five sisters: Genneth Sue Seitz, Barbara Seitz, Wynifred Eastep, Brenda Davis, Dixie Lee Inglis; and a grandson, Jesse Eastep.

A graveside funeral service honoring Benny’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013, at Glendale Cemetery in Cardington, with Chaplain Dave Matos officiating.
