Vernon “Pete” C. Goyer, 90, of Marion

Vernon “Pete” C. GoyerVernon “Pete” C. Goyer, of Marion, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1:10AM at Sterling House of Marion.

He was born on August 10, 1923 in Marion to the late Albert and Ella (Dietsch) Goyer. Vernon graduated from Pleasant High School in the class of 1941.

He was engaged in farming his family’s farm until he enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a dental technician in both the Philippine Islands and in Korea.

Upon his honorable discharge, he returned from the war to continue farming in Marion. He was introduced to a young lady named Janet Hochstetter. They were married on September 5, 1948, in Moline, Ohio. They celebrated 65 years together just weeks ago.

Besides farming, Vernon was also employed at the Marion Depot, and later transferred to DCSC in Columbus, where he retired from in 1982.

He was a member of Cornerstone Alliance Church.

He will be missed by his wife Janet; three children: Tim (Vickie) Goyer of Toledo, Rex (Cheryl) Goyer of Sycamore and Jana (Mike) Ziegler of Marion; eight grandchildren: Jacob Goyer, Libbie Daboiko, Callie Goyer, Grace Goyer, Marissa Kenny, Jennica Nigh, Aaron Ziegler and Lindsay Kelly; and eight great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by his sister Dorotha Goyer, and brothers John and Wilmer Goyer.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Cornerstone Alliance Church, 2010 Marion-Marysville Road, Marion from 10:30AM to 12Noon; Funeral services will follow at 12Noon with Pastor Tim Miller officiating, burial will be in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Alliance Church or to the Marion General Hospital Hospice.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Claire Bridge of Sterling House for their constant care of Vernon during the few months of residence there and also to the Marion General Hospice.
