Joan E. Thomas, age 84, of Waldo, died peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2013 at home.
On October 19, 1929, Joan was born in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of the late Clyde and Luella (Wood) Porterfield. As a family they moved to Waldo when she was just a child, and she graduated from Waldo High School in the Class of 1947.
Joan married Lowell E. Thomas. They shared 66 years of marriage, and shared a close bond with their three daughters: Carol, Connie (deceased) and Peggy.
In addition to being a loving homemaker, Joan was a faithful member of the Waldo Town and Country Mother’s Club, she helped serve banquets at the Brown House for many years. She also served as a 4-H advisor and enjoyed sewing, bowling and water aerobics.
Ever since moving to Waldo as a child, Joan was a member of the Waldo United Methodist Church, where she served as a treasurer.
She will be missed by her husband, Lowell Thomas; her daughters: Carol (Eddie) Gregory of Waldo, and Peggy (Ralph) Benziger of Delaware; a son-in-law, Bob (Donna) Rammon of Johnstown; 5 grandchildren: Joel, David, Cassie, Tessa and Ali; and 8 great-grandchildren.
A casual visitation will be held from 1 – 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the Waldo United Methodist Church (address below). Services honoring her life will follow there at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Mary E. Sanberg officiating. Burial will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
