Ruth O. Beckel, 90 of Richwood, formerly of Prospect died Friday morning, January 17, 2014 at Marion General Hospital. She was born September 20, 1923 in Marion to the late Perry and Anna Gertrude (Jones) Rider.
A 1941 graduate of Harding High School, she was a member of the former Zion United Church of Christ in Prospect where she had worked as secretary for many years. Ruth had worked as a clerk at the IGA store in Prospect. She was very talented at sewing and needlepoint and one of her favorite hobbies was redressing dolls. She loved playing euchre and pinochle. Ruth enjoyed baking, and one of her specialties was chocolate chip cookies. She also enjoyed playing the organ.
On September 23, 1944 she married Clyde Beckel Sr. in LaRue and he survives. She is also survived by two sons, Clyde Beckel Jr., Prospect; Ted Beckel, Marion; grandchildren, Kimberly (Robert) Drumm; Kristin (Keith) Bentley; Eric (Michele) Beckel; a step-granddaughter, Jessica Speelman; great grandchildren, Weston Drumm, Wyatt Drumm, Keagan Bentley, Gavin Bentley, Kieran Bentley, Kailee Beckel; step-great-grandchildren, Courtney Huffine, Nathan Blevins, Jeannie Blevins; a great-great-grandchild, Serenity Ridgely; a step-great-great-grandchild, Raedyn Huffine; a sister, Anna Marie (Andy) Anderson, Lorain.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Christopher Beckel and two sisters, Edna Griffith and June Williams.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 2 to 4 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood, where there will be private services held Monday at 11:00 AM. Pastor Gale Green will officiate and burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.
