Frances L. Smith, age 87, of Marion died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at The DeWolfe House in Marion, OH. Born April 19, 1926 in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Domenick and Amy (Banks) Romano.
On July 5, 1926 she married John R. “Bob” Smith who died March 31, 1989.
She was preceded in death by one sister Catherine Shaw in 1989.
She is survived by three dear first cousins Mrs. George (Kathy) Cox, Lewes Delaware, Alena Caldwell and Amelia Spry both of Bluefield, West Virginia, a brother-in-law, two sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews, including niece, Linda (Sonny) Smith of Marion, OH.
She worked for the city of Marion Income Tax Department for 25 years as Clerk, Deputy Tax Commissioner and then Tax Commissioner retiring in 1985.
Francis was a member of St Mary Church. She was a member of Public Employees Retirees, Republican Women’s Club, Marion County Historical Society and The Palace Cultural Art Association.
Per Frances’ request, no calling hours will be observed. Graveside rites will be held 11AM Saturday, February 15, 2014 at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Father Thomas Buffer presiding.
