Gloria McDuffie of Plantation, Florida passed away March 16, 2014 at her son’s home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 10, 1954 in Marion, Ohio.
She obtained her undergraduate degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. Her young son, Otis, often attended classes with her there instilling in him early the importance of education. Her Master’s Degree in business was received from the University of Dayton.
While a resident in Marion, Gloria worked at the National City Bank and also worked in a volunteer capacity with many non- profit organizations. Her dreams of career advancement and better opportunities for her son Otis lead her to Warrensville Heights, Ohio. There she continued to work at National City Bank until she retired.
After retiring, she moved to Florida and began working with her son Otis, serving as the director of his Catch 81 Foundation. She was a co – founding member of the Professional Football Players Mothers Association. (PFPMA). As a result of her involvement in the community, Gloria received many awards from numerous other charities.
Gloria started each day with prayer and meditation. Her love for her family and friends was obvious, not only in the Plantation community, but all over the United States. She was the life of every party, and could light up a room with her smile and bouncing step. A special fan of the Miami Heat, she loved roller blading, and line dancing.
She was the cherished and special Mom of O.J., beloved grandma (GG) of Otis James & Cameron James, and dear sister of Minnie J. Range, Celia R. Thomas, Cynthia Berry, Homer McDuffie, Jr, Tara L. Dyer, David W. McDuffie, Rocky A. McDuffie, Lisa R. Bradford, Mary K. Brady, and Mark A. McDuffie (Andrea). In addition to her Aunt Cheree Thomas and Uncle James Spiller, she is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Mary Emma McDuffie, her brother Ricky and sister Nicole.
The family has given Boyd’s Funeral Home the privilege of taking care of Gloria as she travels to Marion, Ohio to her final resting place.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 24, 2014, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with a viewing at 12:00 and services beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Chapel Heights Memory Garden.
