Roberta “Berty” Fitzpatrick age 76 of Marion, Ohio, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday March 22, 2014.
She was born on November 20, 1937 in Marion, Ohio to the late Garland and Josephine (Long) Shorter.
On March 17, 1957 in Marion she married Charles F. Fitzpatrick and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1996.
Roberta was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and she was a 1955 graduate of Pleasant High School. She was very active throughout her life with many activities with her family and things she was involved with in the community.
Roberta was a member and an officer in the Marion County Kennel Club and she had a strong passion for raising, handling, and showing dogs. Her special breed were German Weimaraners. Two of her champion dogs were Baron and Apollo, and they were her boys because her and Charles had all daughters. She loved spending time with her daughters and was involved in all of their many activities in their lives and also with all of her grandchildren’s activities.
Roberta was a big Country Western Fan and a big sports fan. She loved all kinds of sports, but especially the OSU Buckeyes, the Carolina Tar Heels, and the San Antonio Spurs. Roberta was also a very active volunteer with the Marion Palace Theater and also besides the time she spent with her family, she had many, many friends that she truly loved spending time with.
Roberta leaves behind her four loving daughters; Linda (Tom) Brill of Grapevine, Tx., Jill (Frank) Johnston of Jacksonville, Fla., Caroline (Jim) Metcalf of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Sandra (Kevin) Stewart of Westerville, Ohio. There are also seven grandchildren surviving; Frank Johnston, Heather (Doug) Mantia, Eric Brill, Kyle Brill, Michael Metcalf, Adam Brill, Matthew Metcalf, and one great-granddaughter survives, Eliana Mantia. Two sisters also survive; Barbara (Albert) Carns of Sun City West, Az., and Lorie (Dan) Anderson of Richwood, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews survive.
Besides her parents and her husband, Roberta was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Brill, a great-granddaughter, Sophie Mantia, a sister, Kathryn Whiteman, and two brothers; her twin Robert, and Garland Richard Shorter.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday March 29, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be A.I.M. Kevin Kehn. Burial will follow in the Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 10 to 11 A.M.
