Anna Catherine ToombsAnna Catherine Toombs, age 99, of Marion, passed away peacefully in her home on March 31, 2014 with her daughter, Shirley J. Smith, and granddaughter, Tami K. Hesson by her side.  Anna and daughter Shirley shared a special bond enjoying the past 12 years as inseparable best friends.

Anna married Harley S. Toombs on August 25, 1930; he preceded her in death in 1976.

Anna was a homemaker known for her strength and independence who loved to travel and spend time with her family.  The love she had for her many grandchildren kept her spirit strong throughout her life.  She was soft-spoken, kind-hearted, modest, and always up for a new adventure.  Twenty years ago she didn’t hesitate to wait in line at Kings Island to ride the fastest roller coaster in the world and only 10 years ago was still eager and willing to hop on the Harley and go for a spin.  She was “family” famous for her homemade chicken and noodles that became an addition to every holiday meal.  In the warmer weather you could find Anna in the yard tending to her roses, gardens, and birdhouses.  The neighborhood squirrels enjoyed Anna’s company as well and waited patiently on the back porch as they were sure to get a treat.

The daughter to the late Wilson H. and Elsie May (Brayman) Schrool she was born in Columbia, PA on December 2, 1914.

Anna and Harley moved from Indiana to Marion, OH in 1935 to raise their family that included 8 children. Anna’s family will continue to pass along stories throughout generations honoring her memory and remembering the wonderful mother and grandmother they all knew.

Smith of Marion; brother, Daniel (Shirley) Schroll of LaRue, OH; sister, Mary Blevins of Prospect, OH;  and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren as well.  Anna had 7 children preceding her in death: Harley J.
