Velma L. Ritzler, age 96, of Marion passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 7:20 p.m. in the Heartland of Marion.
She was born in Marion, Ohio on February 18, 1918 to Edgar D. and Mona Marie (Peck) Cook.
Velma married Donald P. Ritzler in Marion, Ohio on December 31, 1938 and he preceded her in death on September 24, 1999 in Marion.
She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church. Velma was employed as a typist for Fulfillment Corporation of America for a short time and went on to work at S&H Printing for several years.
The lifelong Marion resident is survived by 3 daughters; Cheryl (Douglas) Castle of Midlothian, Va., Pamela (Carlos “Corky”) Thomas of Marion, Oh., & Deborah (Douglas) Shipley of Marion, Oh., 6 grandchildren; Nathan (Alina) Castle, Valerie (David) Valiente, Matt (Teri) Shipley, Lance (Makala) Shipley, Heather (Dane) Clark, & Marc (Mary) Thomas, 10 great grandchildren; Kyle, Leah, Jack, Adrian, Brooke, Jacob, Harper, Donnie, Bastian, & Isla, and 2 great great grandchildren; Weslee & Marlee. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, 1 brother, and 2 sisters.
A.I.M. Kevin Kehn will conduct the funeral service in the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the Marion Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
Contributions in Velma’s name may be made to the Emanuel Lutheran Church or to Acclaim Hospice.
