Ruth Miley Peters, age 86, of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the St. Joseph Health Care Center in Warren, Ohio.
Ruth was born in Roundhead, Ohio, on February 18, 1928, the daughter of the late Franklin Leonard and Golda Augusta (Pratte) Miley. Ruth was educated at The Ohio State University, earning her Bachelor and Master Degrees. Ruth spent 22 years in the River Valley Schools serving as a 1st grade teacher.
Ruth was a very feisty, determined and kind woman. She ran for Marion City Council against an incumbent and won. Along with being an OSU Alumni, she was a fierce supporter and proud fan of the University. Ruth was also a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church. She was very involved in many activities and numerous organizations over the years.
She is survived by her children: Constance Brown of Niles, Joseph (Kathleen) Peters of Marion; foster son Dennis O’Block of Seattle, WA; Step children: Anne (Dr. James) Hering and Rev. Jerry (Kathy) Bechtle; 2 grandchildren Sarah (Zachary) Bixler and Andrew (Kelly) Brown and 5 great grandchildren.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Francis J. Peters and Karl Bechtel; Siblings: Maurice, Herbert and Harold “Jack” Miley and her twin sister Naomi Jolliff.
Visitation will be TODAY, Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion from 5PM to 7PM; Graveside services will be in the Hale Cemetery in Mt. Victory, on Friday at 10AM; A Memorial Service will then follow at Emanuel Lutheran Church at 1PM, Pastor Kevin Kehn will be officiating. A lunch will be served at the church at 11:30AM.
