William J. (Bill) Haberman, 62, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 27, 2014, after a courageous eleven year battle with prostate cancer.
Bill was born on December 15, 1951 in Marion, the eldest son of the late William and Angela M. (Irvin) Haberman.
He was a 1970 graduate of Marion Catholic High School, where he excelled in football and basketball, earning an athletic scholarship to Capital University, from which he graduated in 1974.
On August 25, 1973, Bill married his high school sweetheart, the former Mary Jo Schlairet, who survives. He is also survived by his sons, William J. (Amy) of Columbus and J. Wesley (Tristan) of Columbus.
Bill was a loving and protective father and a very proud grandfather to Wyatt, the light of his life. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his next two grandchildren, Amelia and William (Billy) Haberman, V.
Bill is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Mark A. of Dublin, Shannon of Delaware, Mary Alice Cheek of Cincinnati, Michael A. of New Philadelphia and Theresa Taylor of Delaware, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was a former member of St. Mary Parish in Marion and St. Edward the Confessor Parish in Granville. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 671 in Marion. Bill spent his management career at Marion Power Shovel and Fulfillment Corporation of America in Marion and as Regional Director for Paychex, Inc. in Columbus.

At Bill’s request, no visitation will be held. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11:30 am at St. Mary Church, 251 North Main Street, Marion, OH with Father Thomas Buffer presiding. A celebration of Bill’s life will commence immediately thereafter at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1232 E. Center Street, Marion, OH.
