William L. “Blackie” Blackledge, age 73, of Marion, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Born February 15, 1941 in Wuasseon, OH, he was the son to the late Walter and Mary (Sorba) Blackledge.
He graduated from Marion Catholic High School in 1959 and later married Theresa Isom, who survives. They share over 54 years of marriage.
Bill worked for The Whirlpool Corporation, Phillip 66, Universal Motor Parts, Pete Miller Inc., Grady Memorial Hospital, Walsh Auto Part, and was the caretaker of Steve Young FOP #24 Lodge, in Caledonia for 18 years.
Bill was a member of the Fly Wheels of Marion, dearly loved to fish and went every year since he was in high school to White Fish Falls Canada, which is still a family tradition. As a long time mechanic, he loved any kind of auto racing.
Bill is survived by wife, Theresa; children, Lisa Blackledge, Brian (Lisa Cronley) Blackledge, Jeff (Julie Blashinsky) Blackledge; six grandchildren, Stacy Johnston, Aaron (Beth Vargo) Blackledge, Jessica Thompson, Brady Spigiel, and Justin and Jessica Chapman, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by parents, and two brothers, Steven and Bobby.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 5PM until 8PM at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors with Parish Prayers at 5PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Thursday, June 19, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Thomas Buffer presiding. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
