Betty J. Fowler, age 77, died peacefully on Friday morning, July 25, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.
On January 19, 1937, Betty was born in Iaeger, West Virginia, one of nine children of the late Joe and Beatrice (Sisk) West. She was raised in Baileysville, West Virginia, where she graduated from their high school in the class of 1955.
Shortly after moving to Marion, Betty started her own drapery company in her garage known as Tide Water Fabrics. She made and installed custom curtains, drapes and blinds with the help of her husband, Herb. This has been her life’s passion for over 40 years, until just recently when she was no longer able due to her health.
One night at a dance in the old Holiday Inn in Marion, Betty met her life’s dancing partner, Herbert Fowler Jr., and they have been inseparable ever since. They were married shortly thereafter on December 28, 1983, and have cherished their 30 years of marriage.
With a love for traveling, Betty and Herb loved to pack up the car and drive all over the United States to visit her many brothers and sisters all of whom she dearly loved. She especially loved to visit the one’s along the coasts, so she could eat her favorite meal…crab.
Having a heart of gold, Betty was an extremely loving and caring woman who always saw the best in everyone! She loved being surrounded by her family, and loved spoiling her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Herbert Fowler Jr. of Marion; a son, Michael (Pat) Nichols of Caledonia; a son-in-law, Mike Hughes of Marion; three step-sons; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; six sisters: JoAnn (Chuck) Huffman of Marion, Katie Izzo of St. Clairsville, OH, Alice (Barry) Yost, Shirley (Larry) Dinsch, both of Brooksville, FL, Beverly Rondy, and Pamela West, both of Columbus, OH; a brother, Jim West of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Hughes; a brother, Benny West; and a step-son, Kevin Fowler.
Services honoring her life will be held at her graveside at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the Chapel Heights Memory Gardens, 2622 Marion Upper Sandusky Rd. (SR 423), Marion, with Pastor Joe Ziraldo officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marion General Hospital Hospice, 278 Barks Rd. W., Marion, OH 43302.
