Donald F. Ryan, age 90, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening July 27, 2014 at the Kingston Residence of Marion.
Don was born on January 19, 1924, the son of Judson and Bertha (Flewelling) Ryan in Elyria, Ohio. Don graduated from the Elyria High School and then attended Ohio University, graduating with a Bachelor degree in Arts.
In 1943, Don enlisted in the United States Army to bravely defend our country during WWII. He was awarded several medals, including 4 Bronze Stars.
Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he was united in marriage to Agnes Irene Ratcliff in Elyria, Ohio. Together they shared nearly 68 years of marriage.
Don retired from the Marion City Schools as an Art teacher, serving the schools for 27 years.
Don was very gifted and had many hobbies. He loved to volunteer and did so at the Palace Theater, Heritage Home and the Visitors Center. He was honored to receive the Pearl Roberts award. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, Marion Rose and Garden Club and also the Fish and Game Club. Don also enjoyed working with pottery and he was extremely gifted in creating beautiful Tiffany style lamp shades.
He is survived by his devoted wife Agnes I. Ryan of Marion; his children: Al (Barb) Ryan of Marion, Joan (Randy) Hill of Bridgman, MI and Timothy (Beth) Ryan of Camden, SC; grandchildren: Kimberly (Jeff) Price, James Ryan, Brandon (Stephanie) Ryan, Issac (Kristina) Ryan, Morgan Ryan and Jonathan Hill; great grandchildren: Connor and Drayson Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Jack and Bill Ryan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Central Christian Church, 421 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Marion from 10AM to 12Noon; Memorial services will immediately follow at 12Noon with Rev. Merlyn Winters officiating
