Greg C. DeChant age 65 of Marion, Ohio, passed away on Sunday July 20, 2014 at the Marion General Hospital.
He was born October 30, 1948 in Elyria, Ohio to the late Donald and Jessica DeChant.
On December 3, 2005 in Delaware, Ohio he married Norma Jean Coons and she survives.
Greg was a friendly guy and very out going. There wasn’t a stranger he didn’t know. He was an amateur radio operator and had earned the extra license status which is the highest level of achievement that can be obtained. Greg also was very much into astronomy and was involved with the Hidden Hollow Observatory in Mansfield, Ohio. He was also a U.S. Air Force Veteran.
Besides his wife, Greg leaves behind three daughters; Michele (J.D.) Long of Lancaster, Ohio, Jessie DeChant of Georgia, Gabrielle DeChant of Savannah, Ga, a son, Brandon Babcock of Marion, Ohio and numerous grand and great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Greg was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah DeChant.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday July 26, 2014 at 2 P.M. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Chaplain Randy Dawson. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 P.M.
