Arlene Jeanette Large, 86, of Marion passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at 8:45 a.m. in the Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on September 11, 1927 in Zanesville, Ohio to Jacob and Ruth (Beck) Rowland.
On April 11, 1944 in Greenup, Kentucky, Arlene married Thomas M. Large and he preceded her in death on December 16, 1977 in Marion.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, the ladies prayer group of the church, and the “Prime Timers” group.
The legacy of her life here on earth will determine how she will be remembered. That legacy was that she loved Jesus with all her heart and soul. She would never hesitate to start up a conversation, even with a stranger, and tell them about the Lord. She was a true prayer warrior and her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16.
The lifelong homemaker is survived by a son; Tom Large of Marion, Oh., 3 daughters; Nikki Simpkins of Marion, Oh., Teresa “Sue” Smith of Clearmont, Fl., & Gayle “Cookie” Coffey of Salyersville, Ky., 2 sisters; Doris Gabriel of Marion, Oh. & Pat Noggle of Chambers, Az., 12 grandchildren including special grandchildren; Steve & Lisa Hunt, Holly & Seth Hunt, 18 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
Grandma Large or Grandma Arlene to some of us was a real grandma always puttering around the kitchen with her apron on and making everything from scratch, a little of this and a little of that is what she called cooking. She was a sweet woman with a simple demeanor that with her smile would light up the room. She was always making silly little gestures, laughing and joking around. Her favorite game called “Got you last” will always be remembered by all of the grandchildren. She was always constantly nurturing with her love and faith, and always putting others above herself.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Thomas, a son; Scott Large, 2 brothers, & 2 sisters.
Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Monday, September 1, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. Pastor Don Diehl will conduct her funeral service in the funeral home on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. and burial will follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Josh & Jake Simpkins, Tim & Rick Kohler, Marty & T.J. Coffey.
