Keith D. Kohler, 62, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 9, 2014 at his residence.
Born July 12, 1952 in Marion, he was the son of the late Theodore and Flora (Smith) Kohler.
On June 24, 1972 he married Linda (Hindman) and she survives.
Also surviving are his son, TJ Kohler of Marion; his daughter, Jennifer (Jeremy) Howard of Hilliard; grandchildren, Aleks John (Kristina) Kohler, Kailynn Kohler, Ashlee Ann Kohler, Kale Vivian Kohler and a great grandchild, Izzabella Lynn Spring Kohler; brothers, Theodore (Rita) Kohler, Jr. and James Kohler of Marion; sister, Diana (Doug) Bauer of St. Petersburg, FL; sister-in-law, Linda Kohler of Lubbock, TX; special nephew, Todd (Kim) Kohler of Wisconsin; special niece, Theresa (Russell) Kelly of Lubbock, TX and many other nieces and nephews.
A lifetime resident of Marion and 1970 Graduate of Harding High School, Keith was an assembler with Whirlpool for 44 years. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church where he served at the annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner.
A longtime member of the Marion County Historical Society, where he served as maintenance supervisor, he was the “go to guy” and known as the Marion County Sports Historian, with his specialty being Jim Thorpe and the Oorang Indians. He was also instrumental in the organization and planning of the Vintage Baseball games played in Marion. A current board member of the Huber Museum and member of the Marion Genealogical Society, he was also a member of the Jim Thorpe Hall of Fame in Jim Thorpe, PA.
Keith was also part of the Ohio 121st Volunteer Infantry Division of the Civil War Reenactment Group where he was specially trained from Fort Niagara to operate and fire cannons from the Civil War Era.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Kohler and two sisters, Barbara Christian and Karen Olds. Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Schuring officiating. Friends may call from 2-5 P.M. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
