Barbara J. Snyder, age 87, of Marion, peacefully went to be with the Lord and was reunited with her husband, son, and family, on Sunday afternoon, August 31, 2014, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
On April 20, 1927, Barbara was born in Lancaster, Ohio, to the late Donald W. and Twila Mae (Branum) Senff. Her family moved to Marion, Ohio, in 1928, where she graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1945. On September 3, 1947 she married William L. “Bill” Snyder. Together they raised three children and were married 63 years. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2011.
Barbara was a loving mother and homemaker. She encouraged her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren offering them her “pearls of wisdom”. She also was an excellent baker, artist, quilter and enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. Loving to travel to Europe was great fun for her and Bill and they especially loved Ireland, Scotland and Great Britain. As a member of the Marion Senior Center, Red Hat Society and the Berean Baptist Ladies Breakfast Club she was always busy.
In 1977, Barbara and Bill moved to Belle Center, Ohio, where he served as postmaster at the U.S. Post Office in Belle Center, Ohio. While there they attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine.
Barbara never feared life’s toughest challenges, because of her firm belief in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She has also been a member of the Marion Berean Baptist Church since 1972, where she served in the church senior group and sang in the church choir.
She will be dearly missed by her two children: William L. (Petra) Snyder Jr. of Green Camp, and Janis (Norrie) Tangeman of Bellville; four grandchildren: Julie (Chad) Messenger Carroll of McKinney, Texas, Jodie Messenger Borchers of Lancaster, Ohio, Cory Ray and Joey Lee Snyder, both of Marion; four great-grandchildren: Payton Lee Snyder, Amelia Jean Borchers, Charles Benner “Ben” Carroll III, and Jack Marshall Borchers; a sister, Donna (John) Frye of LaRue; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her youngest son, Donald Ray Snyder; and her sister and brother-in-law; Patricia (Harold “Rich”) Mills.
Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, at the Berean Baptist Church, 131 Marion-Cardington Rd. East, Marion. Services honoring her life and homegoing will also be held there at 11 a.m. on Friday, with Dr. Charles Reed officiating, assisted by her son, Pastor William L. Snyder Jr. Burial will follow in Claridon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International or to a charity of the donor’s choice, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
On behalf of her family, they would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to everyone at Kindred Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their tender, loving care of their mother, grandmother and “Nanny”.
